Communicating the Mission as the Brand for Special Olympics Idaho
need
Special Olympics Idaho is a non-profit organization that supplies year-round sports training and competition to 1,900 Idaho children and adults with intellectual disabilities. To provide these on-going programs, they rely solely on sponsorship, donations and volunteers within the Idaho community. There is not federal funding or assistance from the national chapter making it necessary for Special Olympics Idaho to promote their mission in all forms of media.
solution
Zeta Interactive’s (then Temel’s) goal for this website was to display all available programs on the homepage, while allotting segments for the different audience types:
- Athletes tracking event schedules
- Families learning about Special Olympics health and social initiatives
- Volunteers looking for available programs to assist
- Sponsors, both corporate and individual, learning about the mission and the win-win benefits of donating
To achieve this segmentation, Zeta employed a series of color and imagery assignments to each audience area. A heavy use of cross-linking ensured that the entire Special Olympics story could be told, providing a consistent message throughout the site. In addition to these best practices, Zeta gave a prominent home for the Special Olympics message, “It’s Fantastic”, in a powerful visual animation on the homepage as well as an embedded video in the Press Room section.
results
As an in-kind donation, Zeta created an attractive and functional internet presence, displaying the most current information regarding programs and events for athletes, families and sponsors. This gave Special Olympics Idaho the ability to educate the public of its mission without the costs associated with web design and development.
