Good read Garrett, a recent Mashable article also calls this to light:
http://mashable.com/2012/01/17/branded-apps-infographic/

I think mobile apps have been a convenient excuse for many to hop onto a trend as well as enter the mobile space. But as you pointed out there are more than a half a million mobile apps within Apple's App Store right now with more on the way. Plain and simple App Stores are not ideal for distribution - the web it however. Which is why hopefully you will see more people invest in HTML5 and cross platform compatible sites. Developing Apps for every SDK and its iterations is going to be a costly nightmare for folks long term....

Hi Al, great article--I didn't realize that the gap between President Obama and the Republican candidates was so vast. Did Zeta Interactive take the global nature of buzz into consideration in the study? I do believe that President Obama has much better brand recognition and positive sentiment internationally but that may not translate to voter counts.

Hi Lusine,

Thanks for commenting! Yes this does actually work. I've built lots of relationships using this technique. It's a great way to find out bloggers who are talking about you, your company, or your product. When you find that person, you already know that they like your company so your success rate on securing a link is dramatically higher than when you reach out to bloggers randomly. If you aren't able to get a response through email, try twitter also. And don't forget to reverse image search competitor logos, competitor products, and competitor infographics. When you find people who like your competitors, you can explain why you're better and why you deserve a link. Good luck!

Came across this post in DigitalPoint forum. Does this really work? Have you actually got the relationship from the people? I'd say it is another creative way to find friends online, but don't know allover how effective this would be.
