Make no mistake about it. Google is a for-profit corporation. And as such, they can and will make decisions that improve their bottom line even if those same decisions potentially mean a decrease in the end-user’s experience (not to mention outrage on the part of big brands).
A good example is Google’s decision to allow non-brand entities to bid on branded keywords and use those keywords in their paid search ad copy. This Adwords trademark policy could potentially misguide end users to third-party sites even if their initial intent was to navigate over to the official brand channel.
But not to worry. There are those waiting in the wings to take advantage of Google’s end-user oversight…
